New Microsoft Research Studies Eye Tracking & Search Results

Microsoft recently conducted a new eye tracking study on how users interact with search results. Amongst the many findings of the study is the idea that search marketers should be more interested in getting in the top 5 results instead of the top 10. Other findings include search engines should experiment with adding more "official" site links at the tops of their pages, and consider enlarging the size of descriptions or "snippets" to help users find what they are searching for.

If you're interested in reading another search marketers take on this study, check out Danny Sullivan's analysis over at SearchEngineLand. It's pretty indepth and gives you a good idea of some of the major findings of the study.

If you're interested in reading the actual results of the study firsthand, then hop on over to Microsoft Research to read up on it.
